Join us for the ADVENTURE of a lifetime as we explore the world’s longest and most historical stock route. Built in 1910, the route begins in Halls Creek and extends all the way south to Wiluna in the mid-west.

Over 18 days we will cover approximately 1850kms, crossing 3 deserts, the Tanami, Great Sandy and Gibson, over 900 sand dunes and experience an ever changing, extremely isolated outback landscape, from rocky station country, barren spinifex covered deserts, dry creek beds and huge salt pans, topped off by massive valleys, rocky lookouts and natural springs and waterholes. The ultimate test for both driver and vehicle.

On our tour you will get to experience all 51 of the wells where accessible, from the beautifully restored working wells to the totally dry and derelict. Along our path we will see an array of different bird life, camels, dingos, emus, kangaroos and possibly even a thorny devil. For the nature lovers we will also experience a landscape of forever changing flora and fauna. We will also get to explore the many aboriginal art sites along the way.

The Desert Is Calling

Itineraries

Day 1

Start of Tour

We meet at Halls Creek’s Kimberley hotel for both tag along and ride along customers where we will get to enjoy our meet and greet dinner and introduction. Ride along customers will be picked up in Kununurra and transported to Halls Creek.

Day 2

We hit the road

Head to Wolfe Creek meteorite crater, the second largest meteorite crater in the world. Then we head to the community of Billiluna and visit the community store and get a last splash of fuel, then we join the start of the Canning Stock Route.
Pull up at stretch lagoon for our first night of camping.

Day 3

We hit the track

We head to well 49, one of the few working wells on the top section, from here we head to Crown head/Breaden Valley ranges that rise up out of the desert. Here we visit Godfreys Tank to check out petroglyphs of boomerangs, circles and strings of dots. Also found here are fossilised marine worms, and then the hidden waterhole of Breaden Pool.

Day 4

Gravity Lakes

Heading south we stop at well 46 with it’s open grassed area and derelict but working well. We then head towards our overnight camp at Gravity lakes.

Day 5

Guli and Tobin

Today we cross the Guli lake system and lake Tobin, more broken wells to visit before arriving at our overnight camp at well 41.

Day 6

The Desert

Broken wells and broken vehicles, desert isolation at it’s best, we pull up at well 38, here you can walk down to Wajaparni Rockhole and then set up our overnight camp nearby.

Day 7

Well 33

Another day of historic broken wells ending at well 33, this is a great opportunity to do some clothes washing at this very large open camp with windmill and water tank supplying endless amounts of perfect water.

Day 8

Thring Rock

We head into the community of Kunawarritji, fill up with enough fuel and supplies for the next approximately 1050km, enjoy a quick warm shower and flushing toilets, we then hit the track again as we head to well 31, then we enjoy the changing scenery before arriving at Thring rock where you can walk to the top for beautiful views and the perfect sundown and overnight camp.

Day 9

Slate Ranges

Today we will stop at many of the derelict wells, passing Turtle rock before coming across the Slate ranges, here you will understand where it gets its name from due to all the fragmented slate covering the area, then we head to well 26 a working well with a memorial to Alfred Canning. Here we set up camp.

Day 10

Lake Disappointment

Time to tackle the dunes again as we head south, taking in more wells before arriving at Georgia bore and its hand pumped fresh water, then we continue south to Lake Disappointment which definitely won’t disappoint. We take some time to walk the dry salt lake before moving on to explore Savoury Creek. Then we make for camp nearby.

Day 11

Desert Oasis

Experience the sun coming up over lake disappointment, before we hit the road and start with crossing Savoury Creek. We then continue to cross the tropic of Capricorn before stopping at Onegunyah Rockhole to search for Aboriginal art and check for water. Then we hit the tracks again before arriving at the desert oasis that is Durba Springs a hidden grassed oasis amongst beautiful river gums and surrounded by stunning red sandstone ranges, this is a good opportunity to do some hand washing and relax.

Day 12

Durba Springs

A day at Durba Springs to check out the aboriginal art, walk the gorges and search for the waterfall, finished off with a special group themed dinner. Meal and sweets for all supplied. (Theme to be confirmed closer to time)

Day 13

Cannings Cairn

We leave Durba nice and refreshed and visit more wells before arriving at midway lookout, climb to the top for beautiful views where you will also discover Cannings Cairn. Time to make camp and enjoy an earlier finish to the day.

Day 14

Well 12

Today we continue to explore more wells. Passing Murray Rankins trolley, we then continue to the working well 15 and visit more wells as we watch the terrain forever changing before setting up camp under the trees at well 12.

Day 15

Pierre springs

Today takes us along the edge of Lake Aerodrome , on to well11/Goodwin soak and then as we start to see more station country we will be stopping at well 9/Glen Ayle, an actual working station where we also check out John Forrest’s fort. We will then continue on to well6/Pierre springs and camp under the desert oaks.

Day 16

Station Country

Our penultimate day on the CSR, the station country continues, we stop at well 5, one of the last fully operational wells, from here we will head to Windich springs where we can walk the beautiful treed banks. We then proceed to camp at well 3/3A.

Day 17

The final wells

Today we visit the final wells as we head to Wiluna to fuel up before finding our final overnight camp to celebrate the conquering of the CSR.

Day 18

Final Trek

Our last leg as we head to Newman and arrive at “Mia Mia – House in the Desert” for our final dinner.

Day 19

Ride Along Drop Off

Ride along customers transported to Newman airport

Reputable upgraded suspension due to the harsh corrugations encountered
Vehicle needs to be able to carry enough fuel to cover approximately 1050km offroad (Canning Stock Route)
Rated recover points must be fitted (factory hooks are not acceptable)
Snorkel Fitted.
UHF radio, minimum of 5watt, fitted to vehicle preferred. hand held hire unit can be supplied if required
Supplied vehicle inspection to be carried out 2 weeks prior to trip
Minimum spares to be carried, recommendation list will be supplied

Paint protection (Canning Stock Route). This is highly recommended as some sections can be very overgrown.
